The TG alloy steel hand tap set includes one taper tap and one bottoming tap, with fully ground cutting geometry and straight flutes for manual internal threading. Select the required metric thread size for work on iron, aluminium, copper, No. 45 steel and A3 steel.
Key Features
- Taper and Bottoming Taps – Includes a taper tap with shallower threads at the leading end and a bottoming tap with deeper threads at the leading end, for sequential hand tapping.
- Fully Ground Construction – Precision-ground threads and cutting geometry provide a defined cutting profile for hand tapping.
- Alloy Steel Material – Combines strength and toughness for metal thread-cutting applications.
- Straight-Flute Design – Flutes provide space for chips during cutting, with periodic reverse rotation helping to break chips during manual operation.
- Square Drive and Brushed Shank – A square drive section engages with a matching tap wrench, while the shank features a brushed finish.

Applications
- Manual cutting of metric internal threads in iron components.
- Hand tapping in aluminium and copper workpieces.
- Internal threading in No. 45 steel and A3 steel components.
Usage Recommendations
- Check the Thread Size – Match both the nominal diameter and pitch to the required thread before starting.
- Prepare the Pilot Hole – Use a pilot hole appropriate to the selected thread size and workpiece material.
- Use a Matching Tap Wrench – Fit the square drive securely into a suitably sized tap wrench.
- Use the Taps in Sequence – Start with the taper tap, then follow with the bottoming tap. Keep the tap centreline aligned with the pilot-hole centreline.
- Apply Even Turning Force – Turn the wrench evenly with both hands. Apply light starting pressure, then avoid forcing the tap forward once it has engaged.
- Break Chips Periodically – The supplied operating guide recommends reversing approximately 45° after each full forward turn to help break chips. Adjust the operation to the material and cutting conditions.
- Stop if Resistance Increases – Do not increase turning force when the tap becomes difficult to rotate. Stop and check alignment, chip buildup and pilot-hole suitability before continuing.
Included Components
- 1 × Taper tap in the selected thread size.
- 1 × Bottoming tap in the selected thread size.
